Meet the newest cast member of Saturday Night Live: Kate McKinnon. Last saturday night her debut as a feature cast member on SNL was marked by her first sketch opposite guest host and ABC’s Modern Family, Sofia Vergara. The sketch portrayed McKinnon in a Pantene commercial as a hard to understand Penelope Cruz, plagued by pronouncing difficult and scientific hair related words.
McKinnon is perhaps best known for her work on the Logo Network’s Big Gay Sketch Show in which her most prominent character was a British boy named Fitzwilliam who wished he was a girl. She is the first openly gay cast member on the show since Terry Sweeney back in 1985. Her other credits include voiceover work for Ugly Americans, Robotomy, and The Venture Brothers.
McKinnon joins Vanessa Bayer, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah as featured cast members as SNL seeks out new talent in preparation for the expiring contracts of prominent cast members Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis.
