Late last year, late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien unveiled a superhero character that was designed especially for him. Christened the ‘Flaming C’, the comic creation was drawn by Warner Brothers animator Bruce Tim in the Conan host’s likeness – but in fishnet stockings… and old man socks and garters.
Despite becoming an instant hit with the red-headed host’s fans, the ‘Flaming C’ has lay low for a while. That is … until recently, when not only did the lanky funny-man crash the Warner Brothers panel for Green Lantern: The Animated Series at the San Diego Comic-Con, but he also brought with him a trailer for the ‘Flaming C’s own animated series.
Armed with an oven mitt (‘having just taken some focaccia out of the oven’), and a rasp not unlike an impression of Christian Bale’s Batman, the Flaming C had no problem winning over the fans gathered in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Centre.
But that’s not all that’s happening in the world of the ‘Flaming C’. Team Coco put together a gallery featuring ‘Flaming C’ fan artwork at 353 5th Avenue in San Diego. Entitled Coco MoCa (Museum of Conan Art), and running only from July 21st to the 24th, the gallery is considered a physical extension of the virtual museum.
Of course in true O’Brien fashion, that wasn’t all. Visiting fans were able to score free ‘Flying C’ posters along with other fun, emblazoned items such as t-shirts, capes and oven mitts.
Given the fan response, the creators of ‘The Masturbating Bear’ may have given the world of comedy a champion worthy of keeping us laughing.
